Indianapolis Colts vs Kansas City Chiefs

Indianapolis Colts vs Kansas City Chiefs: The Divisional Round of the 2019 NFL Playoffs will begin on Saturday when the Kansas City Chiefs host the Indianapolis Colts. The Chiefs had Wild Card weekend off after earning the top seed in the AFC—their first No. 1 finish since 1995—after a strong 12-4 campaign, while the No. 6 Colts were the last team in thanks to their victory over the Tennessee Titans in the Week 17 finale.

The Indianapolis Colts delivered further warning signs of imminent NFL dominance as they purred to a 21-7 Wild Card victory over the Houston Texans. Needless to suggest a Colts team capable of reviving a 1-5 start to the campaign to finish 10-6 present a fierce challenge this weekend. Frank Reich’s team heads to the Divisional Round where they will face the AFC’s top seed, the Kansas City Chiefs, and their high-powered offense. The Colts will be looking to pull off another upset.

Tight end Travis Kelce undoubtedly warrants a mention in every team meeting prior to a clash with the Chiefs. Perhaps more so than ever on this occasion. While it may be designed to help the Colts contain Tyreek Hill, zone coverage runs the risk of affording Kelce the space to excel underneath as he has done so often this season. The sooner Kelce’s presence demands defensive adjustments, the greater the threat Hill begins to pose.

The Colts’ defense looked awfully impressive against the Texans this past weekend, but slowing down Patrick Mahomes and Co. is an entirely different challenge. Odds are that the Chiefs will put up at least 30 points, as they did in 12 of 16 games this season. Will Andrew Luck and the Colts be able to keep up? Chiefs 35, Colts 27.

Still, it’s hard to see a scenario in which Indy’s defense, which has been respectable this year and ranked in the top-10 for points allowed, can completely shut down the Kansas City offense the same way it did to Houston’s. Another key battle in this contest will be whether or not the Chiefs can generate pressure against star quarterback Andrew Luck.
